M.2 with NVMe or SATA - which is faster? Overview of performance
M.2 with NVMe or SATA SSDs - the two interfaces offer different data rates. In this article you can read which variant is faster and whether it is worth buying.
M.2 with NVMe or SATA: A clear winner
The latest technical evolution of hard drives are M.2 SSDs with NVMe. These are not only smaller than conventional SATA SSDs, but also significantly faster. But the surcharge is not worth it for everyone.
- M.2 SSDs with NVMe are about five to seven times faster to read than conventional SATA SSDs. When writing, an M.2 SSD with NVMe is about three to four times faster than a SATA SSD.
- In everyday life, however, you will hardly see a difference here. The faster data rates of an M.2 SSD with NVMe only become noticeable when copying large amounts of data.
- So if you are dealing with photo and video editing, it is worth buying an M.2 SSD with NVMe. Otherwise, a SATA SSD is sufficient.
In the next practical tips, we will show you how an SSD works and how you can upgrade SATA III.
