Mac: Toggle active corners on and off
The so-called "active corners" on Mac or MacBook can be switched on and off via the system settings. With this feature you can call up the desk or launchpad, for example, by moving the mouse pointer to a specific corner of the display.
Turn off all active corners on Mac
If you do not want to use the active corners, you can deactivate the function of each one. That's how it's done:
- Open the "System Preferences" of the Mac and go to "Desktop & Screen Saver".
- Switch to the "Screensaver" tab and click the "Active corners ..." button at the bottom right.
- Open the corresponding drop-down menu for each of the four corners and select "-". The active corners are now deactivated.
Turn on and configure active corners on Mac
You can decide which function is hidden behind which corner:
- Go to "System Preferences" and select the "Screen Saver" tab under "Desktop & Screen Saver". Click on "Active corners ...".
- Here you can choose an action for each corner. For example, you specify that the monitor should be in sleep mode when you navigate with the mouse in the lower right corner.
Connect active corners with a key or key combination
Sometimes the mouse pointer ends up in a corner faster than you would like and triggers an action. You can prevent this by pairing the active corner with a button. It works like this:
- Go to the settings window for the active corners (as described above) and open one of the four drop-down menus.
- Press and hold the button you want to connect to the active corner while selecting the action you want. For example, you can set the desk so that it is only displayed when you move the mouse into the upper left corner and hold "cmd" at the same time (see screenshot).
Tip: Read here how you can quickly display the desktop without using active corners. The instructions refer to a MacBook Air 13-inch, Mid 2012 under OS X 10.8.3.
