Mac as a WiFi router for the iPhone - how it works
If you don't have a WiFi router, you can use your Mac as a WiFi router for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. We'll show you how it's done.
This is how the Mac becomes a WLAN router
- All you need is a Mac or MacBook with the operating system OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion or newer.
- Only from this version the WPA2 encryption and no longer the essentially insecure WEP encryption is used.
- If your Mac cannot be updated to OS X 10.8 or a later system, you will unfortunately not be able to follow these instructions.
Use Mac as a WiFi router for the iPhone
- Open the system settings on your Mac and select the category "Shares".
- Then click on "Ethernet" under "Internet Sharing" and activate the "WLAN" option here.
- Click on the "WLAN options", give the connection a name, select the "Personal WPA2" option, assign a channel and set a secure password.
- Close the window with "OK", activate "Internet sharing" and confirm it with "Start".
- You can now log into your Mac's WiFi network on your iPhone.
