Start Mac automatically and switch it off - how it works
You can start or shut down your Mac automatically. There is a special function for this in the system settings. You also activate a restart or hibernation with a timer at a certain time. We show you how it works.
Turn your Mac on and off automatically
For the control of several Macs in companies or the use of desktop sharing programs, an automatic switch on and off function under Mac OS can be advantageous.
- Open the system settings in your dock.
- Now select the "Save energy" icon in the second line.
- Now a new window appears. Here you select "Schedule" at the bottom right.
- You can then set the respective boot times for your Mac (see screenshot). Activate the check mark under "Start or end hibernation" and then select a setting for single or several days a week. You can set a restart or switch-off timer by ticking the second line.
Activate automatic login
It is also important that the automatic login is activated in the user settings. Otherwise, your Mac only starts up without logging into the user account.
- Start the system settings in the Dock.
- Select "Users & Groups" here.
- Now activate the desired user and open the registration options. Please note that this requires you to enter your user password beforehand. To do this, click on the lock symbol (see screenshot).
- Now click the button next to "Automatic login" and select your user here. The function is activated by entering your password.
If you want to activate a hibernation or restart, you have to activate the box under "Schedule" in the second line and select the respective option.
