Mac Automator: scale images
With the Automator application you can create many useful functions on your Mac. Among other things, you can use it to quickly scale images.
Mac Automator: Create Image Scaling Service
First, you need to create a so-called "service" for scaling the images.
- First open the Automator application and select the "New document" item.
- Select the "Service" item as the type of document.
- In the left half of the window, look for "Scaling images". With a double click you can add it to the program.
- A dialog appears asking whether you would also like to add the "Copy object" element. If you do not want the image file to be replaced when scaling, click "Apply" in the dialog. This is how the object is copied to your desktop before scaling.
- The program element should now appear in the right window area. Here you can choose whether to scale the image using a pixel boundary or a percentage.
- Now you have to change the item "Service receives selected text (s) in each program" to "Image files in Finder.app" (see image).
- Now save the service with the shortcut [CMD] + [S]. Give the service a suitable name.
Mac: Quickly scale pictures in the Finder
- After you have created the service, you can quickly and easily scale any image file in the Finder application.
- To do this, simply right-click on the image and select your created service via "Service". Then, depending on the program, the image is first copied and then scaled, or scaled immediately and the old image file overwritten.
