Create a Mac screensaver yourself - how it works
If you want to create your own screen saver on your Mac, you have different options. We'll show you what these are in this practical tip.
Own screensaver - give your Mac an individual touch
- With today's monitors, a screen saver no longer fulfills the task of protecting against image burn-in, but rather serves to individualize or express one's own personality.
- You either have the option of customizing existing screensavers on your Mac. Or you can create your own screensavers.
Customize the screensavers on your Mac
- Click on the apple in the upper left corner and select "System Preferences".
- In the window that opens, click on "Desktop & screensaver" in the top row.
- With some of the screen savers available on the system, you can, for example, enter your own text or use your own pictures by selecting a screen saver and changing the source of the pictures below the preview.
- If you move the mouse over the image in the right half of the window, a "Preview" button appears with which you can test your result. If you are satisfied, just close the entire window.
Create your own screensaver for your Mac
- If you don't like the preset screensavers, you can also create complete screensavers yourself and integrate your own animations from Flash, songs or videos.
- For this you need a special screensaver application.
- Depending on your level of experience, you can use the free but sophisticated developer software "Xcode" or use a paid tool such as "iScreensaver Personal 4".
- If you have created your own screen saver, save it under "~ / library / Screen Savers".
- Activate your screensaver in the system settings as described above.
Instead of using a slideshow, you can also set up videos as a screen saver on your Mac.
