Mac: Bluetooth keyboard not found - this is how to solve the problem
If your Mac didn't find its Bluetooth keyboard, there could be several reasons. We'll show you what you can do.
Mac can't find the Bluetooth keyboard
- Make sure there are no metallic objects between your Mac and the keyboard that are interfering with the Bluetooth signal.
- Make sure the distance between your Mac and the keyboard is less than 10 meters.
- Devices such as WLAN routers, microwave devices, and wireless telephones, which operate in the 2.4 GHz range, are capable of sensitive interference with the Bluetooth connection. Therefore, make sure that none of the devices are in close proximity to the Mac and the keyboard.
- Make sure that Bluetooth is activated on your Mac. If the wireless mouse works properly, click on the Bluetooth symbol in the top right corner and check whether the keyboard is also listed under the "Devices" heading next to the mouse.
- Remove the batteries from the keyboard and check whether the battery voltage is still sufficient (if in doubt, replace the batteries). Check whether the contacts in the keyboard and on the screw cap are clean. Supposedly fresh batteries can also leak and cause corrosion on the contacts. If the contacts are clean and sufficiently strong batteries are inserted, press the switch on the right side of the keyboard. The green LED should now light up and a short time later the message about establishing a connection should appear.
Note:
In the network there is the supposed "solution" to turn a little aluminum foil into a pea-sized ball and insert it into the battery tube of the keyboard before inserting the batteries. Please note that there can be a short circuit if the aluminum ball makes contact with the battery tube (the negative pole of the keyboard), as there is the positive pole contact at the end of the battery tube! For security reasons, we therefore recommend refraining from such an application.
The Mac does not find the keyboard despite the fresh batteries
If the above troubleshooting did not work, try pairing your Mac and keyboard again:
- Open the Bluetooth settings via "System Settings"> "Bluetooth".
- The Bluetooth devices that are known to your Mac are listed in the left window. Now click on the entry on the keyboard and then on the minus symbol at the bottom of the window to delete the keyboard.
- Now click on the plus symbol and then press the keyboard switch.
- When the keyboard appears in the search window, click the "Continue" button. If necessary, answer the security question by entering the displayed code and complete the entry with "Enter" to complete the coupling.
- Finally click on the "Exit" button.
