Mac: Show file extensions - how it works
You can view the file extensions on your Mac at any time. We show you how to display the suffixes.
Show file extensions on MacOS X.
Just activate the file extensions so that you know which file types are in your folders. In MacOS X, these are also called "suffixes":
- Click on your desk and select "Finder" in the top toolbar. Then select "Settings" in the menu that appears.
- Switch to the "Advanced" tab.
- Place a checkmark next to "Show all file name suffixes".
- Now you can see the file extensions for all elements on your Mac. These are displayed in the Finder, on the desk and in all windows that are shown.
You can personalize the Mac Finder even further by displaying system files.
