Mac: change DNS server
You can change the DNS server of your network connection on your Mac. We'll show you where to find the setting.
Change DNS server on Mac OS
You can find the DNS settings in the options of your network connection.
- Open the overview of your programs in the Finder and start the app "System Settings".
- Now select "Network" in the middle.
- Click on the network connection you are using, for example your WiFi connection, on the left. You can recognize active connections by the green dot.
- Now open the "further options" at the bottom right. Here you can make changes to your current network connection.
- Above you will find the "DNS" tab (see picture). Here you can add or delete your own DNS servers. As long as you have not added your own DNS server, the standard entry is marked in gray. You cannot remove it.
If, despite an active connection, you have no internet, another practical tip will tell you what you can do if your DNS server does not respond.
