Mac: Dropbox doesn't start - possible causes
The Dropbox on your Mac doesn't start? A faulty installation or a system update can be to blame. Here's how to solve the problem.
Mac OS: Let Dropbox start automatically
If the Dropbox still works after a manual start from the program folder, simply add it back to the login objects of your OS X account.
- Go to the system settings and click on "Users & Groups".
- Find your current user on the left and select them.
- Now click on "Login objects" on the right. Here you will find all programs that are started automatically when starting up.
- If the Dropbox is still listed: remove it with the minus symbol. Then click on the plus symbol and look for the Dropbox symbol in the program folder.
- Now confirm with "Okay" and the Dropbox starts again automatically.
Dropbox incorrectly installed on Mac
If the first solution doesn't help, try this step. There is a possibility that something has changed due to an update of OS X and therefore your Dropbox will no longer start. Maybe the installation of Dropbox also went wrong. Clean up first, then reinstall Dropbx.
- Open the Finder, go to the Applications folder and find the Dropbox icon. Right-click to delete it> Put it in the trash.
- Download the latest version of Dropbox here.
- Double-click the installation file with the .dmg extension and follow the installation instructions.
- For security, you can restart after the installation and see if your Dropbox now starts automatically.
