Create your own icons for files and folders
With "Img2icns" you can also create your own icons to give existing folders and files a new look. How to assign these icons to the desired files can be read in the 3rd paragraph of this practical tip.
- The best icons can generally be created from transparent PNG files.
- You can either design your desired icon yourself using an image editing program, or you can use Google Image Search, which provides a lot of material.
- Once you have decided on an icon, move it to the "Store graphics here" area.
- Then select the "Icns" button and the desired storage location.
- Your icon is now exported as an icns file in the optimal size and resolution.
Assign your own icons to the desired files
After you have created your individual icons, you must assign them to the desired files. This works very easily with an integrated function in the MacOS operating system.
- In a separate window, you should first have the newly created icon ready. Then navigate to the desired file or folder that you want to add a new icon to.
- Right-click on it to display the "File / Folder Information". Alternatively, you can simply mark the file with a left click and then simultaneously press the "CMD + I" command.
- Now simply drag the previously created icon (icns file) onto the folder icon in the open information window. The old icon will then be replaced with your new icon.
- Please note that you don't accidentally move the created icon onto the larger icon of your file under "Preview".
