Mac doesn't recognize DVD - you can do that
If your Mac doesn't recognize a DVD, there can be many reasons. In this practical tip we show you possible solutions.
Mac doesn't recognize DVD - possible solutions
If your Mac doesn't recognize a DVD, you should go through the different solutions in order:
- Clean DVD: DVD drives often do not read discs with lots of deep scratches or dust. Therefore, take a soft cloth with you and try to carefully remove any dirt from the DVD. This practical tip shows you how you can get rid of heavy soiling yourself.
- Restart Mac: If your Mac does not respond to the DVD at all, a complete restart could help. To do this, click on the apple icon in the menu bar and select the "Shutdown" option. As soon as your device is switched off, you can restart it after a few seconds. Then reinsert the DVD.
- Check DVD: Your Mac may not be able to read the DVD because it is damaged. This occurs, for example, in the case of faulty burning processes. Therefore, check the DVD in a different drive or on a different computer. You may not have to re-burn the DVD unless it is unreadable.
- Check drive: If your Mac still can't read the DVD, you should check the drive using another DVD. If your Mac does not recognize this DVD, your drive may be defective or there may be another serious error. In this case, contact Apple Support.
As soon as your DVD drive works again, you can also burn videos to DVDs with iMovie.
