Mac: hard drive full - what to do?
If your MacOS hard drive is full, the system can no longer work properly. In this practical tip, we will show you how to clean up the hard disk the easiest.
Clean Mac hard drive from junk data
- Search your Mac for large, temporary folders and then delete them. This can be done, for example, with the "SimpleCleaner" or "Broom" app.
- With both tools you can scan your hard disk and then you will be shown the various system folders with a lot of content. Often a lot of garbage accumulates in the trash or mail download folder. Select the folders and click "Remove Selected" to delete them.
- You should only delete the cache folder in exceptional cases: Your Mac stores a lot of relevant information about various apps there. If you delete this folder, the system must first collect all this data again. During this time, the device works a little slower than usual. Therefore, only remove this folder if you have already uninstalled a large number of applications, because then there is a lot of data junk in this folder.
- Search your Mac for other large folders. If you have bought "Broom", you do not need any other application: You can see all the larger folders in your system with a click of the mouse.
- Most of these are video games or other larger programs that have already been forgotten that they are still installed. If you no longer need them, you can of course delete them.
- If you are looking for a free alternative for "Broom" you can use "DiskWave" or "GrandPerspective". Both applications basically do the same as "Broom", but they don't look that nice.
