Files deleted in the trash - what now?
There are various tools that you can use to restore completely deleted files. However, hardly any is freeware. With "Disk Drill" you can scan for the lost data for free. In general, the data recovery tools should be on your Mac before you delete the files. Otherwise, the deleted file can be overwritten during installation. However, you should still try to rescue:
- Install and start the program.
- Click "Save" and then "Run all recovering methods".
- The files found are displayed directly. Right click on the desired file and select "Save" to restore the document.
- Alternatively, you can restore your photos and videos with TestDisk & PhotoRec: To do this, select the desired formats under "File Opt" and click "Search". Then mark the desired files and click "Search" again to retrieve the images.
Restoring files from a backup is even easier. To do this, you need to set up the MacOS Time Machine.
