Mac: Give half stars in iTunes - how it works
If you want to rate songs in iTunes on Mac more precisely, you can also assign half stars. You only have to enter a command in the terminal beforehand. We'll show you how it's done.
Share half stars for iTunes in the terminal
To unlock the half stars, you first have to activate the function via the terminal:
- Close iTunes. Open the Spotlight search ("cmd" + spacebar) and type in "Terminal".
- Copy the command "defaults write com.apple.iTunes allow-half-stars -bool true" (without quotes) and paste it into the terminal (see picture). Confirm with Enter.
- Close the terminal again.

After this reconfiguration, you can also assign intermediate ratings in iTunes:
- Open iTunes and select the song you want.
- Go to the "Rating" column and click between two stars to award half (see screenshot).
