Mac: Disable Java in Safari - so it'll work
If you don't need Java in the Safari browser on Mac, you can disable the service. Our instructions show exactly how this works.
How to disable Java in your Safari browser version 6.1 or later
You can quickly and easily deactivate the Java web plug-in in Safari. To do this, first open your Safari browser (from version 6.1):
- Click "Safari" in the top left menu bar and then select "Settings".
- Now click on "Security". Below you can see "Internet Plug-Ins".
- Do not uncheck "Allow plug-ins", because then you deactivate all plug-ins, for example Adobe Flashplayer.
- Instead, choose "Manage Website Settings."
- In the list on the left click on "Java". Now you can deactivate Java for the website by selecting "Suppress".
- If you also select "Suppress" under "When visiting other websites", Java is completely deactivated.
- Then restart Safari to apply the settings.
- Click on "Safari" in the top left menu bar and then select the settings.
- Click on "Security".
- With "Internet Plug-Ins" you will see a check mark next to "Allow Java". Remove this to disable Java in Safari.
- Finally, restart Safari so that the browser takes over the settings.
