Mac Mail doesn't send emails - it could be because of that
The Mac programs also have their quirks. It can sometimes happen that you cannot send emails with mail - for no apparent reason. But don't let that unsettle you, we've put together a guide to the possible sources of error.
Just restart the Mac
It is possible that any settings or processes get in the way and the programs may no longer work properly. Restarting the system sometimes works wonders for such problems.
No internet connection on your Mac
Make sure your internet connection is up. Simply open any website to test the connection. If necessary, restart your router or modem.
Your email account is "offline"
Another cause of the error could be that your mail account is not active. You can recognize this by the following symbol next to your account name: Wavy line in a circle (see screenshot). In this case, proceed as follows:
- Click on "Mailbox" in the menu bar
- There you select "Bring all accounts online"
The mail account settings are incorrect
If, for example, the entered password or the SMTP server is incorrect, no email can be sent either. Check the following entries:
- Click on "Mail" in the top right and then on "Settings"
- Select yours under the "Accounts" tab
- Make sure the password you entered is correct - enter it again
- Check whether the "SMTP server" is that of your email provider and not "None".
Your email account is not activated
- Open the settings as described above and select your account
- For "Account information" the entry "Activate this account" must be checked
If all of these tips are of no use, just wait and try again later. It may also be due to the fact that the servers of your email provider have collapsed - it is best to check the website and / or the webmail service of your provider. If the situation does not change the next day, it can help to delete your account and create a new one.
