Mac: Dim the monitor - how it works
You can dim the brightness of your Mac monitor directly using the keyboard or in the system settings. Alternatively, use a special program with which you can also change the colors of your screen. We present both variants to you.
Mac monitor dimming
- Press the "F2" or "F3" keys to decrease or increase the brightness. If you want to change the brightness in smaller steps, hold down the "alt" and "SHIFT" keys.
- Alternatively, you can regulate the brightness in the system settings. To do this, click on "Monitors" under "Hardware" and slide the controller in the desired direction.
Automatically dim the monitor on the Mac
If you do not want to adjust the brightness manually, simply activate the automatic brightness:
- Start the "System Settings".
- Here you select the menu item "Monitors".
- You will now see a box under the brightness control. Here you can tick the box to have the brightness regulated automatically in the future.
Change the brightness with "Dimmer"
"Dimmer" is a special program with which you can regulate the monitor brightness and change the colors of the screen:
- Download the program here.
- Then start it. A light bulb symbol then appears in the upper task bar.
- Click on the symbol to set the brightness and colors of your monitor. However, you should be careful with the color settings, as this can lead to strong and disruptive color changes.
