Mac: Users log in automatically - how it works
If you don't want to log in to your Mac every time with a password, activate the automatic login. You can find out how to do this in this guide.
Automatic registration on the Mac - how it works
- Open the system settings and select "Users & Groups".
- In the following dialog window you see the users on the left as a list. Click on "Login Options" below.
- In order to be able to edit the settings, you first have to click on the lock symbol in the lower left and enter your password. This will remove the protection.
- At "Automatic login" you can now select the user for whom you want to activate the option.
Automatic registration greyed out - what now?
It can happen that the selection field "Automatic login" is grayed out and cannot be edited. This is because you probably gave your Apple ID password when you set up your Mac. This is then automatically adopted as a Mac password and does not work for the automatic login of other users. However, the problem is easy to solve.
- To do this, mark the desired user in the list and click on "Change password"
- Assign a new password to the user. You can then also activate automatic login for this user.
