Mac: Find folders, files and directories
This overview shows you how to find folders, files and directories on your Mac. Because unlike Windows, Mac OS X has no obvious button that takes you up one level in the Finder.
Find folders, files, and directories on Mac
If you are looking for a directory, a file or a folder, but cannot get to the necessary directory, a short key combination will help you:
- Press and hold the [cmd] key and additionally press the up arrow key on your keyboard. This will take you to the next higher level of your finder.
- Press the key several times in succession to get to the top directory. Here you will find the four basic folders "User", "System", "Library" and "Programs".
