Clean up Mac OS Dock with dividers - how it works
You can easily tidy up your Mac OS Dock with transparent dividers and split it into groups. We will show you how to add the separators to your docking strip.
Insert transparent separators in the Mac OS Dock
With a terminal command you can add transparent separators to your Mac OS dock bar and move them freely. That's how it works:
- First open the terminal. To do this, click on "Go" and "Utilities" in the Finder on the top menu bar. You will also find the terminal under the utilities.
- Copy the code "defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-apps -array-add '{" tile-type "=" spacer-tile ";}' && killall Dock" into the terminal and confirm your entry with [Enter ].
- The dock closes briefly and restarts. After this process, a transparent symbol is available on the right edge of the docking bar. Like all other symbols, you can easily move this with the mouse.
- You can repeat the command as often as you like and add new separators. You can remove the icons in the dock like your apps by right-clicking.
The practical tip relates to Mac OS version 10.9.3. In another practical tip, we will show you how to hide your Mac OS Dock.
