Mac OS Mavericks: Record Screencast - Here's how
With Mac OS X Mavericks, you can easily record a screencast without downloading additional programs. This practical tip shows you how to use the feature.
Record the screencast with the Quicktime Player
Screen recording is not dependent on Mavericks. With QuickTime X, you can also start Screencast on earlier versions of Mac OS X.
- Start the QuickTime player. The video program is integrated in Mac OS X, you do not need to download it separately.
- Go to "File ->" New screen capture ". In the following window you can start the screencast.
- You can either record the entire screen or limit the recording to a section. To do this, drag the mouse pointer over the desired area.
- As soon as you start recording, a small recording icon appears in the status bar. Click on this symbol to stop the recording. Then the player opens. You can play the screencast, save it in MOV format, export it to an iOS device or to Apple TV.
On your Mac, you can not only record the contents of the screen, but also record audio and video with Quicktime.
