Mac OS: delete fonts - how it works
The font collection in Mac OS contains many fonts that you probably never need. We'll show you how to delete them.
How to remove unnecessary fonts in Mac OS
Only delete fonts from the Font Collection app, never from files from the system. Mac OS requires these fonts to display its programs.
- Open the Finder and there the "Programs".
- Scroll down to the "Font Collection App" and start the program with a double click. Now all fonts available in Mac OS are displayed.
- Select the font you want to delete. If you see a small gray arrow in front of it, the font contains further formatting. These are displayed by clicking the arrow.
- If you want to delete the whole font family, right-click on the unopened font folder. In the context menu, select "Remove family 'XY'" to delete the font.
- If you only want to delete formatting, for example "Italic", right-click on the corresponding file and select "Remove 'XY'" here.
