Mac OS: Install and set up Thunderbird - Here's how
You don't have to do without Thunderbird on your Mac either. This practical tip explains how to install and set up the software. If you don't like Apple's mail program, get the popular email management program on your Mac.
Install Thunderbird for Mac
Download Thunderbird for Mac OS and open the executable.
- Then drag the program into the app folder.
- Click the program icon to open Thunderbird.
Set up Thunderbird on Mac OS
When you start Thunderbird for the first time, you will be asked whether the application can access your contacts. You can allow this to import your contacts directly into Thunderbird. You can then set up Thunderbird as the default application for your emails. Remove the checkmark if, for example, you prefer to work with the Apple mail program by default.
- Thunderbird asks you if you want to have a new email address on gandi.net. Click on "Skip and use my existing email address" in the window below to start importing your existing email account directly.
- Then enter your email address and password and click "Next". Thunderbird will now automatically search for the appropriate server information.
- Now decide whether you want to leave the messages on the server (IMAP) or save the messages on the computer (POP3) and then click "Done". By the way, the server data can be adjusted via "Manually edit" if necessary.
- Your emails are now automatically received and you can view them in your inbox.
Thunderbird offers extensive features for your email management. For example, you can create a vacation notice.
