You can read out the version and build number of your Mac OS at any time. This will let you know the status of your system. Our guide will tell you how it works.
Mac OS - how to find out your version and build number
To find out if you need a system update, just look up your version number:
- Click the Apple logo on the Apple toolbar, then choose About This Mac.
- In the next window you will find information about your system under the Apple logo under the lettering "OS X".
- Click on this line to display various information. Your version number, build number and serial number will gradually be displayed in this way. You just have to click on the line again and again.
