Mac OS X: Dock disappeared - that could be the reason
On Mac OS X Maverick, the dock may have disappeared. We'll tell you here why and how to fix it.
Dock disappeared - you can do that
Every now and then it can happen that your dock is invisible. There can be several reasons for this.
- First, check the dock settings. To do this, click on the apple in the top left.
- In the menu you will find "Dock". If "Dock always shown" is there, confirm the point. If the dock appears, the problem is resolved.
- You will find "Dock system settings" below. Here you can make exact settings. If there is a check mark next to "Dock and hide automatically", remove it. Then the dock will always be shown.
- You may have accidentally banished the dock; there is a shortcut for this in Mac OS X. To hide the Dock, press Alt + cmd + D. In the same way, you can show it again.
Properly end the dock process
Sometimes nothing works. This can be due to an app just installed or compatibility problems. Then you have to properly close the process from the dock.
- You will find a magnifying glass in the top right. The point is called Spotlight. Enter "Terminal" here.
- You open "Terminal" and enter "killall Dock".
- This ends the process and restarts properly. The dock should now be visible again.
