Convert m4a files to mp3 files using iTunes
You don't need any additional software to convert an m4a audio file to mp3 with your Mac, because iTunes has a corresponding tool on board.
- Open iTunes and import the audio file you want to convert.
- Go to "Settings ..." in the "iTunes" menu.
- Click on "Import Settings" in the "General" tab.
- In the "Import with" drop-down menu, select your desired encoding format, in this case MP3 encoder. You can also specify the quality under "Settings". Clicking "OK" saves your selection.
- Then go to the media library and select one or more songs. In the "File" menu ("File" if necessary) click on "Create new working copy".
- In the following, your previously made selection from the import menu is displayed. Confirm it and wait for iTunes to finish.
- Now you can delete the original m4a file.
