Mac OS X Mavericks: Create a smart folder
With Mac OS X Mavericks, you can create a smart folder to make it easier to find specific files. We show you how intelligent folders work and how you can change and adapt them again at any time.
Create a smart folder on Mac OS X Mavericks
A smart folder is not really a folder in the classic sense. Rather, the tool constantly collects certain files that match a search task you have configured. So if new matching files land on your Mac, they will automatically be displayed in the intelligent folder. More information can be found here.
- Start the "Finder" via the dock.
- Click on "File" in the top right corner and then on "New Smart Folder".
- In the search line at the top right (see picture), enter certain keywords that should be used to search for files. If the search should focus not only on the file name, but also on the content, click on "Name matches" after entering the keywords. Now you can click on "All" or "Name" in the dropdown menu (see picture).
- To further specify your search, click on the plus symbol below the search line. Here you enter further parameters - for example a file type.
- After configuring the search parameters, select "Save" under the search line. Here you can also select the storage location and decide whether the intelligent folder should be displayed in the sidebar.
- If you want to make changes to your smart folder, just open it and tap the search bar.
