Mac OS X Mavericks: Safely delete objects
Under OS X Mavericks you can safely delete objects from your hard drive. As part of the "normal" emptying of the recycle bin, it is possible to restore the data with the help of special programs. According to Apple, secure deletion should prevent this. We show you in our guide how it works.
Safely remove objects under OS X Mavericks
You can safely remove your objects with your trash. The deletion process is similar to the standard process, but a different button must be pressed:
- As usual, drag and drop an object into the trash, or by right-clicking on the object and selecting "Put in trash".
- Now open your trash in the dock.
- With the Recycle Bin window open, click "Finder"> "Empty Trash Can ..." on the Apple toolbar.
- Safe emptying can take longer than usual deleting. In this process, the free space is overwritten to prevent restoration by third-party software.
