Mac OS X: Remove programs from Launchpad - Here's how
If you want to customize your launchpad under Mac OS X, you should first remove all programs from it. We show you how to do this.
Remove programs from the launchpad
By default, you can only delete apps from the launchpad that have been loaded from the Mac app store. Before you can customize the launchpad, you must first empty it. Warning: The following solution does not work on newer Mac OS X versions like Yosemite or El Capitain.
- To remove the programs, you need to start the terminal on the Mac.
- Enter the terminal command "sqlite3 ~ / Library / Application \ Support / Dock / *. Db" DELETE from apps; DELETE from groups WHERE title ''; DELETE from items WHERE rowid> 2; "; Killall Dock" and confirm your entry.
- This removes all programs from the launchpad.
Remove programs from the launchpad manually
Under the current OS-X versions, you can customize your launchpad by removing the programs one by one from the launchpad:
- Open the launchpad.
- Hold the mouse on one of the icons.
- Then remove the respective programs using the associated x symbol.
Load your own programs into the launchpad
After you have emptied the launchpad using the terminal command or manually, you can add your own programs:
- Drag and drop the desired programs onto the launchpad icon to add them.
- If you would like all apps to be displayed in the launchpad again, enter the command "rm ~ / Library / Application \ Support / Dock / *. Db; killall Dock" in the terminal.
