Mac: Extract the RAR archive - how it works
If you want to unpack a RAR archive under Mac OS X, you need additional software. We present two programs to you.
The Unarchiver: Open RAR archives on Mac
Windows and Mac OS X can open archives, but RAR files are not included. Free software helps you here:
- Download the tool The Unarchiver and install the application.
- When starting for the first time, you can choose whether you want to always unpack the archives in the same folder or whether you should be asked each time.
- Now select which file formats The Unarchiver should open. Activate "RAR Archive" and all other required formats here.
- If you now open the desired RAR archive, it will be opened automatically with The Unarchiver.
- Select all files with the mouse and click on the "Extract" button at the bottom right of the window.
- The RAR archive is then extracted. Depending on the size, this can take a few moments.
UnRarX: Open RAR files on Mac OS X.
Alternatively, you can also use other software. The UnRarX program is also available free of charge.
- Install UnRarX and then open the desired RAR archive by double-clicking on the file.
- Confirm the process with the "Extract" button. The RAR archive is extracted in the same folder.
- Tip: If there are many files in the archive, you should move the RAR file to a separate folder beforehand.
