Take Mac screenshot: Screenshot on MacBook
You can take a screenshot on Mac and MacBook using various shortcuts. We'll show you what options there are for the screenshot.
Mac OS X: Two keyboard shortcuts for a partial screenshot
If you only want to save part of the Mac or Macbook screen as a screenshot, you can use different shortcuts - depending on what you intend to do with the screen print.
- With the key combination "cmd" + "Shift" + "4" you call up a crosshair with which you mark the area of the screen that you want to photograph. Simply release the mouse pointer after you have marked the area. The image is now saved as a PNG file on your desk or desktop.
- With "cmd" + "ctrl" + "Shift" + "4" you also call up the crosshairs and draw a surface (as described in point 1). However, the photo is then saved on the clipboard instead of on the desktop and you can paste it directly into PowerPoint presentations or Word documents.
Create a screenshot of the entire MacBook screen using a shortcut
To display everything as a screenshot that is currently on the display, there are two different options.
- Use the shortcut "cmd" + "Shift" + "3". The screenshot of the entire screen is then automatically saved as a file on the desk.
- If you need the screenshot in the clipboard, hold down the "ctrl" key, ie: "cmd" + "ctrl" + "Shift" + "3".
Show individual program windows as a screenshot
If you only want to display a specific program window without the status bar at the top or parts of the desk being visible, proceed as follows:
- Use the combination "cmd" + "Shift" + "4" + "space bar". A camera icon will appear, which you can move to the corresponding window with the mouse. Now confirm the snapshot with just one click. The image is saved as a file on the desk.
- To copy it to the clipboard, hold down "ctrl".
Tip: Dust off MacBooks and iMacs cheaply now
Even the quality of a simple screenshot depends on your hardware: the higher the screen resolution of your MacBook or iMac, the higher the level of detail of the screenshot. Older devices in particular, which do not offer Full HD resolution, are no longer up to date.
- You can get the latest MacBooks with a Full HD panel or even higher resolution for less than 1, 000 euros. You can find the exact prices and detailed tests for all current MacBooks in our leaderboard.
- If you prefer to work at your desk, you will find it in our list of all-in-one PCs. There are numerous recommended iMacs at good prices.
