Mac: Reset system settings - how it works
If your Mac's system settings are no longer correct, you can easily reset them. In this practical tip, we show you how to do this.
Reset incorrect system settings from Mac
The settings of your Mac are often changed after a faulty uninstallation or a failed update. In this case you should completely reset the system settings. All you have to do is delete the contents of a folder in the library:
- Open your startup disk in the Finder. This is the hard drive on which your operating system is installed.
- Here you will find a "Library" folder, navigate to the "Preferences" subfolder.
- Change to the "SystemConfiguration" subfolder. Depending on the programs you have installed, you will find various files there.
- Move all the data in this folder to the trash and then empty it. You must enter the administrator password for security.
- Reboot your Mac. Then it is fully operational again and you can adapt all system settings to your needs.
Alternatively, you can also transfer the system settings of other Macs with the migration assistant.
