Mac: Disable trackpad when a mouse is connected
In this practical tip we will explain how to deactivate the trackpad of your MacBook when you have connected a mouse.
MacBook: Disable trackpad
In some cases it makes sense to deactivate the built-in trackpad of your Macbook - for example if you prefer the "Apple Magic Mouse", there is a defect on the trackpad. If you do not use the multi-touch surface at all, this is another reason to deactivate the trackpad, since it also consumes energy. Depending on the operating system of your MacBook, proceed as follows to set the function of the trackpad:
Switch off the trackpad under Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
- Open the "System Settings".
- Under "Appearance" click on "Accessibility".
- There, click on the "Mouse & Trackpad" area and check the box next to "Ignore integrated trackpad if a mouse or wireless trackpad is present".
Disable trackpad on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion & Mountain Lion 10.8
- Open the "System Settings" here too.
- Click "Settings" and "Accessibility".
- Under "Mouse & Trackpad" check the box "Ignore integrated trackpad if a mouse or wireless trackpad is available".
If you want to continue using the trackpad on your MacBook, you can adjust the trackpad settings.
