Mac: video as a screensaver - how it works
You can also use a video as a screen saver on Mac. This is not possible with the on-board equipment supplied. However, you can download a free extension that will give you this option. We use the example of the screen saver "SaveHollywood" to show you how this works under Mac OS 10.8.
Use a video as a screen saver on Mac
- You can download SaveHollywood free of charge here.
- Open the downloaded image (SaveHollywood.dmg) with a double click.
- Install the screensaver by double-clicking on the "SaveHollywood.saver" file.
- Open System Preferences and click on "Desktop & Screen Saver". There you will find a new entry with the name "SaveHollywood".
- Click the "Screen saver options ..." button to open the settings.
- You can now drag and drop any videos into the upper field. You can also place entire folders with multiple videos there.
- You can then select various options. With a click on "Play in random order" your selected videos will be played in random order. In addition, there are also setting options for the image size and how to proceed with the sound of the videos.
- Click on "OK" to complete the entry.
- In the screen saver selection you can now set the time after which the screen saver should start.
SaveHollywood supports the most common formats on Mac (.mov, .mp4, .m4v). If your desired video is in a different format, you can convert it into a compatible format using a video converter such as the Miro Video Converter.
