Install Mac in Virtualbox - Here's how
With Virtualbox you can easily try out a second operating system on your PC. In this article we show you how to install Mac in Virtualbox.
Step 1: Install Virtualbox on your computer
To run Mac in the virtual machine, you must first download the Virtualbox program and install it on your computer:
- First download the latest version of Virtualbox from our download area.
- Then follow the setup to install Virtualbox.
Step 2: Prepare Virtualbox for Mac installation
You then need to create a new virtual box and prepare it for the Mac installation:
- Open Virtualbox and click "New". In the newly opened window, select "Expert mode".
- Then define a name for your virtual box. Under "Type" you have to set "Mac OS X". Depending on which version of Mac OS you want to install, you have to select it under "Version".
- For smooth work with your Virtualbox, you should set a working memory of at least 2048 MB.
- Finally, you have to select the "Create hard disk" item under the "Disk" menu in order to create a new virtual hard disk. Then click on "Create". Select a file path and the size of the hard drive. You can leave the rest of the settings as is. Click "Create" again.
Install Mac in Virtualbox
After you have prepared the virtual box, you can finally install Mac OS in it. To do this, proceed as follows:
- Insert your Mac OS installation DVD into your DVD drive. If you want to install the operating system from an image, you have to select it later.
- Select the new virtual machine in Virtualbox and start it with a click on the green arrow.
- You will now be asked to select a medium for the boot process. This can either be the inserted DVD or your image file.
- Finally, follow the setup to install Mac OS.
