Mac: Unlock additional screen resolutions
Mac OS X does not show you all available screen resolutions. You can unlock more so that your external display gets its native resolution.
Unlock more screen resolution on Mac
Your Mac only lets you choose between the screen resolutions that it considers useful for the screen. If you want to intentionally choose a low resolution, this trick helps:
- Open the Control Panel and select "Monitors".
- Switch to the "Monitors" tab if you are not already there.
- Click on the "Scaled" checkbox while holding down the "ALT" key
- Additional screen resolutions for the Mac are now shown in the list, you can now freely choose here.
This trick works on both the second and the main screen, such as that of a MacBook. In the next practical tip, you will learn how to use two screens at the same time.
