Mac: measure WiFi signal strength - how it works
You can easily measure WiFi signal strength on your Mac. We'll show you how it works.
Measure WiFi signal strength on Mac
You don't need any other apps to measure the signal strength on the Mac, the on-board means are sufficient.
- First, you need to make sure that the WiFi icon is present in your menu bar. Usually this is the case. If not, just open the system settings and click on "Network". Now select the "WLAN" connection type in the left bar and then check the box next to "Show WLAN status in the menu bar".
- Now you can click on the WLAN symbol in your menu bar while holding down the Alt key (option key).
- A dropdown menu then appears, which releases a lot of information about the connected WLAN network - including the signal strength, specified in the RSSI unit.
- However, please note: The lower the RSSI value, the better your WiFi signal. If you are between -60 and -70, you have a good signal strength value.
