MacBook Air: Update Problems - What to Do?
Unfortunately, there are a few problems with the new firmware update for the MacBook Air. We'll show you what you can do about it.
New EFI firmware creates problems
The update of the EFI firmware to version 2.9 should actually solve the problems regarding the wake-up time of the MacBook Air and the fast rotating fans after waking up. However, from various forums it can be heard that the update causes more problems than it solves. Apple has already removed the update, should you still see it, you should definitely not install it.
- Some users complain about MacBook system failures, some about black screens after waking up.
- However, the worst hit was a number of users whose system no longer started.
Reset system management controller (SMC)
If you have such problems with your MacBook Air, you can only try to get your MacBook up and running again by resetting the System Management Controller. Apparently this worked for some users.
- Connect the charging cable to the MacBook Air.
- Simultaneously press Shift-Control-Option on the left side and the on / off switch.
- Then release all buttons and the switch-off button at the same time.
- Now try to switch the MacBook Air on again using the power button.
Waiting for Apple's answer
Since Apple has already taken the update from the support page, a quick solution to the problem is expected from Apple. If the SMC reset has not brought any change, you can only wait for an error-free update and a response from Apple.
While waiting, we will introduce you to the device compatibility of the new OS X Yosemite.
