MacBook: Broken display - what to do?
If the display of your MacBook is broken, there are several repair options available. We'll show you exactly what you can do.
Broken MacBook display - you can do that now
- If you are not to blame for the defect of the display and if the device is still under warranty or if you have purchased an Apple Care Protection Plan, Apple will repair the device free of charge.
- If you are to blame for the defect yourself or if the guarantee has expired, you must pay for the repair at Apple. In this case, repairs with a special repair service are often worthwhile.
- If the MacBook is older or you do not want to carry out the repair immediately, it is not absolutely necessary to replace it. You can still use the MacBook with a broken display via an external monitor.
- If you don't have two left hands and would like to save some money on repairs, you can do the swap yourself. On eBay you can get displays for some models, instructions are abundant on the Internet. Video instructions on YouTube or iFixIt are best suited.

- If you would like your MacBook to be repaired free of charge or subject to a charge, depending on the warranty status, either hand it in at an Apple store or contact Apple Support online.
- The repair at the various repair services is somewhat cheaper. Either go to the repair service on site or use an online service such as JustCom, iHelpStore, Gravis, Notebook-Werkstatt24 or DisplayEngel.
