Macbook: External monitor is not recognized
If your Macbook is connected to an external monitor but is not recognized, there can be several reasons. We reveal what you can do about it.
Problems with Macbook and external monitor: causes and suggested solutions
- Check the cable that connects Macbook to the monitor through the Thunderbolt port. Both plugs should be firmly seated in their respective places. The cable must not have any breaks. Clean the respective sockets for the cable. Dust may prevent contact.
- Restart your Macbook without an adapter connected. If this does not change, try a restart with the external monitor switched on and the cable connected.
- Create a second account on your Macbook (System Preferences> Users & Groups) and try connecting with it.
- Check for updates for your Macbook or external monitor and update the drivers.
- Check the scaling under (System Settings> Monitor) and change it if necessary, as some external monitors cannot display the high resolution of the Macbook.
- Perform a PRAM reset. After the reset process, set the relevant parameters again.
