Charge MacBook in the car - the best car chargers
It goes from one appointment to the next and you need to charge your MacBook in the car. Thanks to little helpers, this is now also possible. In this practical tip, we present three car chargers for MacBooks.
Charge MacBook in the car: how many watts does the charger need?
There are countless offers for 12 volt car chargers on Amazon. In general, you should make sure that the device is suitable for Apple products, since Apple does not sell universal power supplies.
- For a MacBook Air 11 and 13 inch you need a charger with 45 watts of power.
- For the MacBook Pro and MacBook Pro Retina 13 inch you need 60 watts.
- An 85-watt charger is suitable for the 15-inch MacBook Pro and the 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina.
MacBook: Change from MagSafe to MagSafe2
In 2006, Apple introduced the MagSafe power connector. The MagSafe2 followed six years later.
- Since the connectors differ in their shape, you have to be careful to get the right one when buying.
- Alternatively: If you have a charger with a MagSafe connection and would like to charge a MacBook with a MagSafe2 connection, you can purchase an adapter for around 14 euros.
Load MacBook in the car with reVolt
With the PX-1688 - 675 car charger from reVolt, you can also charge your smartphone via the USB connection. This device is available from Amazon for around 35 euros for both MagSafe and MagSafe 2.
- However, the charger is only suitable for connection to a car with 12 volts. On-board voltage sockets with 24 volts are often installed in buses or trucks. You cannot use the reVolt charger with these.
- Note: In general, you should only use all car chargers when the engine is running to avoid over-discharging the car battery.
Load MacBook with Horny Protectors in the car
Those who can do without the USB connection will also find car chargers at Horny Protectors.
- However, these can only be used with the MagSafe connection.
- With an adapter from MagSafe to MagSafe2, the chargers can be used for both connections. Thanks to the lack of a USB connection, this charger is also a little cheaper than other models at around 23 euros.
Charge MacBook with iProtect in the car
An alternative with USB connection are the chargers from iProtect:
- Here the MacBook cable is firmly connected to the power supply.
- You get the power supply with both a Magsafe and a Magsafe 2 connection and in different services (see above) from 25 euros.
