Connect MacBook to Epiano / Keyboard
It is particularly interesting for musicians to connect the Epiano directly to the MacBook and thus be able to record songs. We show how this works in this guide.
Midi connection between Epiano and MacBook
First you need the right hardware: In addition to a MacBook, an Epiano / Keyboard with MIDI or USB output, you also need a Midi to USB cable (price approx.6.50 euros) or a suitable USB to USB cable (1 Meters or 3 meters). Basically, a midi cable is recommended because the latency is lower there. Now connect all devices as follows:
- Plug the midi-in connector of the cable into the midi-out socket of the Epianos. The midi-out connector goes into the midi-in socket of the piano.
- As usual, plug the USB port into a free USB port on the MacBook.
- Depending on which adapter you are using, the adapter should now light up and be recognized by the MacBook.
Set up Epiano on the MacBook
Now that you have connected your devices to each other, you still need the appropriate software. The in-house Apple Garageband software is best suited for this.
- Open GarageBand and select "Keyboard Collection" as a new project.
- If you now connect the midi adapter, you will automatically receive a message that a new midi device has been recognized.
- Then select a new track. As soon as you press a key on the Epiano, it is also played in the MacBook.
This practical tip explains how you can export the sheet music of your finished songs as a PDF.
