MacBook: Reset password without boot CD
If you have forgotten your MacBook password but no longer have a boot CD, you must reset your password without the Apple CD. This only works with a little trick:
MacBook: Reset password without CD
- Shut down and restart your MacBook.
- As soon as the Apple start sound sounds, press the command key and "S" and keep them pressed until the screen goes black.
- Now enter the command "launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist" and confirm it with the Enter key.
- Next, type "dscl. -Passwd / Users /", followed by the username from which you want to reset the password and the new password you want. The username and the new password are separated from each other only by a space. Then confirm with the Enter key.
- Finally, enter "exit" and confirm this again with the Enter key. Your MacBook will then restart. The password has been changed.
Note: Please only use this procedure for your own account and never for someone else's. If you have another user on the Mac who is an administrator, you can also reset your Mac's password with this account.
