Macbook Pro Callback: Am I affected and what should I do?
Apple launched a recall for some Macbook Pro models on February 19. We will tell you whether you are affected and what you have to do in our practical tip.
Macbook Pro recall: what is it about?
Apple has encountered a problem with video playback on several MacBook Pro models that were produced between 2011 and 2013. The symptoms that the affected models show are the following:
- The screen shows a distorted or incorrect image.
- The computer does not output any image and the screen remains black.
- The MacBook Pro reboots unexpectedly.
Macbook Pro Callback: Am I Affected?
You are affected by the problem if your Mac experiences any of the symptoms listed above and you have one of the following models:
- MacBook Pro (15-inch, spring 2011)
- MacBook Pro (15-inch, late 2011)
- MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, mid-2012)
- MacBook Pro (17-inch, spring 2011)
- MacBook Pro (17-inch, late 2011)
- MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, early 2013)

Macbook Pro recall: I'm concerned - what now?
If you own one of the models mentioned and you experience any of the symptoms, you can contact Apple Support from 02/27/15 and have a repair carried out free of charge. If you are concerned and have already had a paid repair performed, Apple will contact you. If not, contact Apple support.
- Note that your MacBook Pro is first checked for other damage that may need to be repaired first. For example, if your Mac has a cracked screen, you will have to bear the cost of this repair yourself.
- Before you take your MacBook Pro for repair, you should back up your data.
- Take your MacBook to Apple support or an authorized dealer. You can find a dealer near you here.
- Your device is checked and then repaired by a technician. Once the repair is complete, you will be contacted and can pick up your MacBook.
The recall will run from February 27th, 2015 to February 27th, 2016 or three years from when you bought your MacBook, whichever is longer. Is your MacBook display broken? In the next practical tip, we will show you the repair options.
