Clean MacBook - the best tips
In this practical tip, we will show you some tips on how to clean your MacBook thoroughly.
MacBook: Clean monitor and case
The MacBook screen in particular is very often dusty. To clean it and the rest of the case, you need an absorbent cloth and an LCD cleaner. You can get this from Amazon, for example.
- Do not spray the cleaner directly onto the device, but into the cloth and use it to gently wipe the monitor and the housing. Do not press too hard on the screen, otherwise you could damage it.
- Refrain from damp cleaning the back wall if you cannot remove your battery.
MacBook: Clean the keyboard
A microfiber cloth and a soft brush are suitable for cleaning the keyboard of the MacBook.
- Gently wipe the keycaps with the microfiber cloth.
- You can carefully brush out crumbs or dust in the keyboard columns with the soft brush.
Clean MacBook fan
Cleaning the fan on your MacBook is not without danger. You lose any guarantee if you open the device and also risk irreparably damaging the MacBook. It is better to contact your service partner for this. If you still want to try it, follow the steps below.
- To open the back you need a Phillips screwdriver and a Torx wrench. With older models you may also need a pentalob screwdriver. A compressed air spray is also an advantage so that you can completely remove dust from your fan.
- The following applies to all modifications to electronic devices: ground yourself before going inside a PC, otherwise irreparable damage to the sensitive computer hardware can occur. Simply grab a radiator for this. So-called earthing bracelets are also available for installation professionals. Also make sure your MacBook is turned off and unplugged.
- Loosen the screws on the bottom and remove the detached cover.
- For maximum security, remove the battery first. With younger models this can be easily lifted out, with older MacBooks loosen the fastening screws and disconnect the connecting cable.
- Now it's time to clean the fans. To do this, disconnect the cable that connects the fan to the motherboard. Here you proceed extremely carefully and use a non-conductive rod such as a ballpoint pen.
- Then loosen the Torx screws with the Torx wrench and remove the fan.
- Fix the fan wheel of the fan and use the compressed air spray to clean the fan. Also remove the dust at the insertion point of the fan (also with the compressed air spray). Cover the other parts of the MacBook with paper so that the dust does not spread inside the MacBook.
