MacBook: Switch on keyboard lighting - how it works
You can switch on the keyboard backlight of your Macbook in just a few steps. Our instructions refer to the "Mac OS X Lion" operating system, but are similar for other versions.
Macbook: keyboard backlight
By default, the Apple Macbook is equipped with an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts the brightness of the keyboard's backlight to the ambient light. Such a sensor determines the lighting conditions and is located on the left side of the FaceTime camera. If the keyboard lighting is switched on, you can regulate the backlighting of the keyboard using the [F5] and [F6] keys.
- Please note that the lighting of the keyboard also stresses the battery. Even if the function is activated and the backlight is switched off, your Macbook consumes energy for this.
Switch on keyboard lighting on the Macbook - the instructions
- Open the Apple menu and go to "System Preferences".
- Under "System Settings", double-click on "Keyboard".
- There you will find, among other things, the option "Illuminate keyboard in poor lighting conditions".
- If you want to switch on your keyboard lighting, check this box.
