MacBook: keyboard broken - what to do?
If the keyboard of your MacBook is broken, it can still be repaired independently in some cases. We will show you how to solve the problem yourself and where you can have the keyboard repaired in the event of a total defect.
MacBook keyboard broken - repair and replace yourself
If the device is still under warranty or you have purchased an Apple Care Protection Plan, you should send the device directly to Apple. Read more in the next paragraph. If the device is outside the warranty period, you can try the repair yourself:
- First, connect a USB or Bluetooth keyboard to your computer. Borrow a keyboard from a friend if necessary. If this keyboard does not work either, the problem is not in the keyboard of the MacBook, but in the system itself.
- If only individual acts do not work, you can repair them yourself. Most of the time, you just have to clean them. Lift a button with a pointed object, such as a small screwdriver or pocket knife, and remove the cover. Depending on the degree of hardness, you can clean the button with a damp cloth or, in harder cases, with cleaning alcohol or alcohol. You should turn off the MacBook beforehand and then let it dry for a few hours.
- If the entire keyboard is defective, you can replace the entire unit. You can find spare parts on eBay and Amazon, among others.
