If the touchpad on the MacBook is broken ...
If the touchpad does not respond properly to your input, you can find out more about possible solutions in the following points. First connect an external mouse to ensure that the touchpad is broken and there is no software error.
- Did you accidentally change the pointer speed? You can find the settings by tapping the Apple icon in the menu bar and selecting "System Settings ..."> "Trackpad". Change the pointer movement under "Point and click" (see image).
- The MacBook's batteries swell in some cases. The battery may be pressing against the trackpad from below. For older devices, you can remove the battery, connect the Mac to the cable, and test if the problem still persists. If the touchpad works again, replace the battery. The battery is installed in new MacBooks. If you see a bulge or feel it on the underside, it is best to go to a repair shop.

- If you previously wiped your MacBook with a damp cloth or had cream on your fingers, the built-in technology of the touchpad will not work. Wait a few minutes for the liquid to dry or help with a handkerchief.
- Older MacBooks may have a screw pressing against the trackpad from below. Remove the battery and screw the screw back in completely.
- If the previous steps have not helped you, you will unfortunately have to bite the bullet and contact Apple's customer service.
