Close MacBook without hibernation - is that possible?
The MacBook is actually not intended to close the MacBook without it immediately going to sleep. With some restrictions you can still do it.
Close the MacBook without sleep mode - the "clamshell" mode
The mode with the names "Computer closed" or "Display closed" requires some prerequisites if you want to use it.
- Basically, the mode only works in network operation. You also need to connect an external monitor, a keyboard and, if necessary, a mouse.
- Once you've connected everything, you can close the MacBook. From Mac OS X Lion you will briefly see a blue screen on the external monitor before you have your usual desk on the screen. With older operating systems, you must briefly end the hibernation of the closed MacBook by pressing a button or clicking the mouse.
Prevent the MacBook from using standby mode

The stand-by mode in the pull-down state has been specially set up to prevent damage from overheating, for example if the MacBook is being carried in a bag for a longer period.
- A well-known tool for closing the MacBook without hibernation is typically called "NoSleep".
- Alternatively, you can also use "InsomniaX.
